Red House Painters |
 |
| 12 Nov, 2006 |
I went to a party last night.
I'm now in bed with my laptop perched on my duvet.
I felt compelled to post 'cos I'm listening to an old Red House
Painters tape and I've got it turned up so loud that I can hear the
hiss constantly.
This music is nostalgic, and I love the way it lurches from being really heavy and fuzzy to light, airy and achingly beautiful.
Be warned, it is quite depressing!! The cover has an old rollercoaster
on it, but I copied mine from a CD that I loaned from Newcastle City
Library. It just has my spidery handwriting in black fineliner.
They're gonna knock the library down, but I like it as a space, so I'd
rather they didn't. The outside is imposing and grim, but I don't mind
it that way. The automatic doors don't open as quickly as I'd like. The
concrete that encases the building is shaped like a big grill.
I used to go in through the back door, across the road from the Laing
art gallery. I remember how warm it was in the winter and how I'd have
to disrobe from my gloves and scarf as quickly as possible, so that I
didn't get a sweat on!
Public libraries seem to be a breeding ground for nutters.
Once, a guy said my wooly hat looked like a trifle... which surprised me, I have to say.
Anyway...
Mark Kozelek's voice is perfect.
My Sunday has dramatically improved.
Take care out there,
